  1. Augustine was a criminal, a murderer.
‘Where there is terror,’ said Augustine, ‘there is salvation . . . Oh, merciful savagery!’ The intellectual foundations for a thousand years of theocratic oppression were being laid.

  2. Saint Augustin ( and all the ppl of North Africa especially Algeria ) is an Algerian Berber not Roman and the city he was born in it was a Berber city 🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿

  3. As a Tunisian i say Augustine is an honor to this civilization ( i feel disappointed you just mentioned north africa but not Tunisia 🇹🇳 specifically ) and we we have a statue of him in pur presidential palace along side the great figures of this beautiful country ❤️

  4. How utterly terrible for humanity that Augustine invented original sin. He was essentially a Platonist poisoned by a need to push the idea that we suffer because we're separated from a fairy tale.

  5. You said that we don’t need to be Christian. You are very wrong in what you said, in reality you do need to be Christian for many reasons and one of the reasons is that Jesus said I’m the way the truth and the life, and if you don’t believe what Jesus said then your calling Jesus a liar.

  6. God's Prophets, Evangelists, and Apostles repeatedly taught original sin in numerous ways. The Apostolic Creed was expanded into the Nicene-Byzantine Creed which also teaches original sin. Bishop Saint Aurelius Augustinus of Hippo Regius only named it. If you're gonna tell it, tell it right. Which Eusebius are you talking about? the apostate Arian AntiBishop Eusebius of Nicomedia? Pastor Saint Eusebius Sophronius Hieronymus? Bishop Saint Eusebius of Caesarea? or Bishop Saint Eusebius of Dorylaeum?

  8. Can someone explain to me what Augustine of Hippo means by this:

"The commandment forbidding killing was not broken by those who have waged wars on the authority of God, or those who have imposed the death-penalty on criminals when representing the authority of the state, the justest and most reasonable source of power"
„But, say they, the wise man will wage just wars. As if he would not all the rather lament the necessity of just wars, if he remembers that he is a man; for if they were not just he would not wage them, and would therefore be delivered from all wars."

  9. When I read The Confessions of St. Augustine I cried. It was so beautiful how he perfectly described the human condition and our ache for Spiritual nourishment that can only be found in the God of the Catholic faith.

  10. Do "we" have to be atheists to appreciate philosophy? Can't I just listen and think for myself, rather than caving into the fashionable groupthink of the moment?
If life has taught me anything, it's that we all get indoctrinated to some degree and one decades trend is the next decades joke. Arrogance prevents learning, keeping an open mind seems to promote progress.

  11. St. Augustine's Two Cities reminds me of Plato's forms. Maybe he was inspired by Plato's philosophy. Who knows?

  12. yeah until the renaissance and humanism proved that believing in human, and not divine might is indeed the right way to go.

  13. I Love the fact that The Great Christofer Hitchens makes an appearance during the unchristian comment.

  14. You know… Just cuz it's got fancy animation and the youtube video itself is created somewhat decently…doesn't make it right. Even wrong information can be packaged nicely… Don't believe everything you see. If you even bother to really care, take the time and use common sense. For example, if I really wanna to know about a particular religion, it's prudent to go to Masters and true representatives of that religion… Whether it be Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and Catholicism. Like when I wanted to know about Buddism, I read a book written by the Dali Lama. St. Augustine is one the great and ancient Saints of Catholicism… For all these millions of people watching this video, you're better off reading a book approved by the Catholic Church or a Catholic theologian or St. Augustine himself or videos here from Catholic evangelists…. Otherwise, you can be susceptible to propaganda… If you don't care cuz your lazy, go ahead and believe everything you see and hear on YouTube and in the media… you'll end up just being sheep amongst wolves. From the looks of the number of watchers here. People don't really care. They just want to be entertained.

  15. If humans are doomed to imperfection, and can only find happiness and perfection in the City of God, then what stops me from killing myself? In accordance with Augustine, that is

  16. Just because Augustine coined a new word that is, original sin, it doesn't mean that Augustine came up with the idea. Coining up a new word doesn't necessarily mean a new idea.

  17. I have strong feelings of confusion about this guy. I saw him on stained glass windows every Sunday. I never thought about looking for this.
